Finding Inspiration at Milan Jewelry Week 2024: A Day of Discovery and Design

This October, we took a one-day creative journey from Lausanne to Milan, diving into Milan Jewelry Week in search of inspiration for our jewelry-making. On October 20th, we had the chance to explore two of the event's most captivating exhibitions: Artistar Jewels at Palazzo Bovara and The Jewelry Hub at La Pelota. Our day ended with an unexpected stroll through a street market, where the spirit of Milan’s artistry continued to unfold.

Artistar Jewels: A Showcase of Contemporary Artistry

Our first stop was Artistar Jewels, held in the elegant Palazzo Bovara. Known for spotlighting cutting-edge designs, this exhibition gathered over 200 artists from 40 countries. With over 850 unique pieces on display, we were immersed in a world of contemporary jewelry that went beyond traditional forms, showcasing materials and designs that challenged convention.

The pieces at Artistar Jewels embodied diverse inspirations—from organic textures to abstract, bold shapes. We found ourselves especially drawn to the pieces that incorporated unexpected materials and asymmetrical designs, reminding us that jewelry-making is about telling a story and capturing a distinct point of view. Artistar’s commitment to promoting both emerging talents and established names gave us a window into the future of jewelry, where each piece becomes a personal narrative and a statement of identity.

The Jewelry Hub: Stories in Stones and Metals

Our next stop was The Jewelry Hub at La Pelota, located in Milan’s historic Brera district. Known for its exclusive approach, The Jewelry Hub gathers a selection of high and fine jewelry, designer creations, vintage pieces, and rare watches. The venue itself added an extra touch of allure, merging historic charm with modern flair.

Each piece in The Jewelry Hub reflected the unique artistry and cultural influences of its creator. From intricate diamond work to masterfully crafted vintage settings, the jewelry here felt like wearable art, steeped in emotion and precision. As we browsed, we could sense the careful thought and skill behind every piece, inspiring us to continue experimenting in our own creations, perhaps blending traditional elements with contemporary touches.

Discovering the Street Market

After leaving The Jewelry Hub, we stumbled upon a vibrant street market filled with antique and vintage treasures, from old trinkets to one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. Walking through the stalls, we felt like we had found an extension of Milan Jewelry Week, with the local artisans and antique vendors sharing stories of past eras through their pieces.

This unexpected find was a fitting end to our day. The market offered an unfiltered look at jewelry’s evolution over the years, from delicate, time-worn rings to bold, retro-inspired brooches. We left with a renewed sense of appreciation for how jewelry captures memories, styles, and eras, bridging past and present in ways that feel timeless.

Bringing It All Home

Returning to Lausanne, our minds were brimming with ideas. From the experimental forms at Artistar Jewels to the refined elegance of The Jewelry Hub, and finally the charm of the street market, every part of the day filled us with inspiration to try new techniques and push creative boundaries. This visit to Milan reminded us that jewelry is more than adornment—it’s art, heritage, and a medium for storytelling.

Stay tuned as we channel these discoveries into our designs. Here’s to new adventures and the endless journey of jewelry-making!
